Toolkhana ("we", "us") provides free online tools at toolkhana.com. This page explains what information is handled when you use the site, and how advertising on the site works.
Information you enter into tools
Most tools (calculators, converters, text tools and others) run entirely in your browser; what you type is not sent to us. Some tools send your input to our server to do the work: the spell checker, readability analysis, text comparison, Markdown preview, hash generator, password and UUID generators, QR code generator and image tools. That input is processed to produce the result and is not stored. Uploaded images and files are processed in memory and discarded immediately; they are never saved.
Notes
If you use the Notes tool, your notes are saved on our server so they are still there next time. Each browser gets its own random private key, and notes can only be read with that key, so other visitors cannot see your notes. If you clear your browser's data, that key is lost and we cannot recover your notes for you. You can delete any note at any time from the Notes tool.
Information stored in your browser
We use your browser's local storage, not cookies, to remember your preferences: light or dark theme, favourite and recently used tools, your to-do list, calculator history and similar settings. This information stays on your device and is not sent to us.
Server logs and security
Like most websites, our server briefly processes technical information such as your IP address and browser type in order to deliver pages, keep the service secure and limit abuse (for example, too many requests in a short time). We do not use this information to identify you or build a profile of you.
Advertising and cookies
We use Google AdSense to show advertisements, which helps keep Toolkhana free.
